MARTIN, Stanley Allan

November 25, 1937 - May 22, 2018

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce that Stanley Allan Martin, aged 80 years old passed away at home on May 22, 2018 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Stan was pre deceased by his wife Marilyn in 2012. Stan is survived by his children, Ross; Scott (Malia); Sarah (Adrian) and the sparkles in his eyes, his four grandchildren: Breanna, William, Alex and Leonard. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Wenzel; brother in law Alan (Suzanne); as well as his nieces and nephews and their families.  Stan was born in Alameda, Saskatchewan on November 25, 1937. His love of airplanes started at an early age; he used to build model planes as a young child and would play with them for hours. After graduating, Stan left Saskatchewan and joined the Navy where he obtained his pilots license and later became a bush pilot and then an Air Traffic Controller. He married Marilyn in 1967 and they lived in various places throughout B.C. but settled in Abbotsford to raise their family. Stan enjoyed building model railroads, camping at the Chilliwack River campground with Marilyn and having family and friends come to visit, fishing, gardening and in recent years he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and tended to his vegetable garden.  In 2008, Stan and Marilyn moved to Campbell River to have a quieter life . Stan enjoyed travelling to England to visit his son and his family. He also liked spending time with his family and friends.  Stan loved his family dearly and was known to be a chauffeur for the grandkids, build toys for them, tease them endlessly or just share with them his positive energy. He was known to buy flowers for random strangers just to put a smile on their face in memory of his wife. He would also bring soup or salad into Sarah’s work to share with her coworkers, just because he felt like it.  He will be missed by those he knew.  Special thanks to Dr. Noel for her care of Stan the last 10 years, as well as all the staff at Campbell River Hospital for their quality care of Stan in recent months.  There will be no service at Stan’s request. The spreading of his and Marilyn’s ashes will be done at a later date.  Those wishing to make a donation, can do so by making a donation to your local food bank or the Habitat for Humanity organization.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Emma Rimell.
