MORRIS, Robert Louis

April 5, 1949 - January 3, 2018

Passed away unexpectedly while doing something he loved, cycling on the roads near Kitty Coleman area. His family, spouse Liz (Avis) and young son Andrew are comforted to know that he had an enjoyable Christmas and welcomed in the New Year at home.

Rob will be well-remembered by all his friends, colleagues and readers of the Western Mariner Magazine, for which he was the writer-editor.  His extensive knowledge of the Maritime Industry and attention to accurate detail was one of his appreciated talents.

Rob also contributed several articles and photos to publications such as ‘Wooden Boat,’ ‘Cottage’ Magazine, the ‘Campbell River Waterfront’ book and the ‘Vancouver Directory’.  His background included work in Marine Biology and earlier work at the Victoria Maritime Museum.

His loss will be felt by many in the Marine Industry from the Shipyards of Vancouver Island and Vancouver Mainland to farther places like Seattle and Florida. He always enjoyed his morning coffee buddies, fellow skiers at Raven Lodge and his interactions with the friendly folks in businesses around the Comox Valley.

Rob will be sorely missed not only by his wife, son and his little dog companion, Tux, but by his sole surviving beloved brother, David.  He and David have spent hours and years restoring and operating David’s wooden boat “Joker A’ in Quathiaski Cove, Quadra Island. He is also survived by extended family in NZ (niece Kate; her Mum Maureen), brother-in-law, Bruce in Comox and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law and their families around BC and England.

Our heartfelt gratitude to the person who found Rob, and the RCMP Team, and the paramedics and hospital medical staff who displayed kindness and professionalism to his family.  A “Celebration Of Life” is scheduled for Saturday, April 7th, 2018. Please see the “Service Schedule” for time and place.

“Fair winds and following seas,” dear Rob…

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Emma Rimell.
